The Knjaževac–Belogradchik route is a cross-border cycling trail that connects Serbian cultural heritage with the natural wonders of Bulgaria. This journey leads through two millennia of history, from Roman military camps and medieval monasteries to spectacular natural rock formations.
The route begins in Knjaževac, a town known for its seven bridges. At the very first stop – the Ravna archaeological site – visitors encounter the Roman past of the region. The route then continues to Suvodol Monastery, peacefully hidden in the forest.
Zaječar, the administrative center of the region, offers a perfect break with an outstanding museum exhibition that includes sculptures and artifacts from Felix Romuliana. After crossing the border at Vrška Čuka, you enter Bulgaria, where the Magura Cave, with prehistoric drawings dating back 10,000 years, represents one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe.
The route culminates at the Belogradchik Rocks — spectacular natural stone formations rising up to 200 meters high, crowned by a medieval fortress that blends seamlessly with the rocks to form a truly unique landscape.
