Project Overview
The main objective of the project is to strengthen tourism connections and increase the visibility of the cross-border region covering the Vidin and Zaječar districts, while improving their overall connectivity.
The specific goal is to develop the Timok–Danube cycling route, which will be connected to the existing EuroVelo 6 and EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail, incorporating the cross-border territories of Vidin and Zaječar districts, including the municipality of Knjaževac.
Project Activities
- Analysis of accessibility of key tourist attractions for cycling tourists in the Vidin and Zaječar districts (10 attractions per district)
- Development of recommendations for improving accessibility for cyclists
- Creation of two cycling manuals:
- Cycling and Health
- Accessibility of Hospitality and Accommodation Facilities for Cyclists
- Rehabilitation and construction of cycling infrastructure in Danube Park, Vidin
- Construction of a 1,825-meter pedestrian and cycling path in Knjaževac
- Identification and development of 10 thematic cycling tourism routes
- Production of promotional videos for all defined routes
- Organization of 2 workshops and 4 training sessions to strengthen cycling tourism capacities
- Installation of 4 digital info points with augmented reality along cycling routes
- Development of the study: “Enhancing the Role of Local Authorities in Improving Tourism Mobility”
- Organization of the conference: “The Role of Local Authorities in the Cross-Border Region”
- Development of the Timok–Danube Cycling web platform providing relevant information for cycling tourists along the Timok–Danube corridor
- Official opening ceremony of the new cycling path in Knjaževac
- Final project conference in Vidin
