The Ravna Archaeological–Ethno Park route is a short cycling trail that takes you from Knjaževac to one of the most significant Roman archaeological sites in Serbia – Timacum Minus. This easy route is perfect for families, beginners, and anyone who wants to combine a relaxing bike ride with rich cultural and historical experiences.
Along the way to Ravna, just 4 kilometers from Knjaževac, you will pass the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God in Štipina, a peaceful place that offers an ideal stop for rest and quiet reflection. Continuing through the village of Potrkanje, you can also visit two traditional wineries (Jović and Todorović) that preserve the long-standing winemaking tradition of this region.
The Ravna Archaeological–Ethno Park represents a unique combination of a Roman military camp and a reconstructed traditional village. Here you can explore the remains of the Roman castrum, once an important military station on the route toward the Danube Limes. Visitors can also discover authentic ethno houses that portray everyday life in this region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, visit the wine museum with its cellar located in the basement of a traditional house, and even participate in traditional pottery workshops.
The route is flat, fully paved, and without demanding climbs, making it perfect for a relaxed ride along the river. It can be ridden in both directions and easily combined with other activities in Knjaževac.
This is more than just a cycling route — it is a journey through Roman history, Serbian spirituality, local winemaking traditions, and the rich ethno heritage of Eastern Serbia.
