The Izvorski Monastery Cycling Route is a peaceful and pleasant cycling route that leads from the town of Dimovo, through the village of Izvor, to the Izvorski Monastery – Assumption of the Holy Mother of God. This route combines a gentle ride through an authentic Bulgarian village with a visit to a spiritual oasis that has preserved its secrets and traditions since the 12th century.
Route: From the center of Dimovo, through the village of Izvor to the monastery, and then back along the same path. The total distance is 18 km (9 km one way). The road is paved with acceptable quality and features relatively moderate inclines.
Izvorski Monastery – Assumption of the Holy Mother of God: The monastery is located 2 km from the village of Izvor, about 9 km from Dimovo, and around 40 km from Vidin. According to legend, it was founded in the 12th century by the Russian prince Izvor Tavorski.
Today: Since 1915, Izvorski Monastery has been a women’s monastery. It remains active today, with a capacity of 20 beds. The monastery also features a holy spring (ayazmo).
