The cave is named after the Venets Ridge in the Western Balkan Mountains, located near the village. For its protection, the area has been designated as the “Venets Cave” Protected Natural Site, within the locality of Chukara.
It was discovered in 1970 during mining explosions in a quarry near the village. The cave was explored and mapped the following year by the speleological club “Bel Prilep,” part of the “Belogradchik Rocks” tourist association.
The cave features a wide variety of speleological formations, including ice crystals, stalactites, stalagmites, aragonite crystals, and grape-like stalactites (rarely seen in Bulgarian caves), as well as calcite formations. One formation is said to resemble the Virgin Mary.
The cave was opened to visitors on June 1, 2015. Artistic lighting has been installed inside (funded through an EU project), enhancing the visual appearance of the formations.
